Rick Shaw- or The Broken Puppet- spends all his time dedicated to art. From his early childhood, to university, and then as he launched into his tattoo career, art has been at the center of it all. Now, with nearly 20 years of experience in the tattoo industry, Rick has built a strong reputation as a versatile artist, well-known for his expertise in traditional tattoo styles.
Throughout his career, Rick has owned and operated two successful studios, trained multiple apprentices, and continues to guide new artists today. He has grown to love teaching, with over 15 years devoted to helping others find their place within the industry. But Rick’s influence is not just limited to his studio; he also inspires thousands of people through his Youtube channel and social media platforms. His philosophy is simple but powerful: immerse yourself in the craft, love the process, stay humble, and never stop learning.
Rick wrote ‘How to Become a Tattoo Artist: From Apprentice to Pro’ to give back to the industry he loves. He hopes this book will serve as a lasting guide for future generations of tattoo artists, offering real-world insights and encouragement.
Beyond his profession, Rick is a husband, and has three children. His wife and children are his greatest motivation in life.
